Welcome to the University Honors Program!

Serge RudazThe University of Minnesota has a long-standing tradition of educating outstanding students from Minnesota and around the world and providing them with Honors opportunities within our colleges.  I am pleased to announce that beginning in Fall 2008, these opportunities and programs will be brought together in the new University Honors Program.  I would like to share some thoughts about the purpose of this program and what it means for students at the University.

The University Honors Program will be a place of extraordinary people and resources, shared passions, creative collaboration, and intellectual and cultural diversity.  It will feature challenging and exciting interdisciplinary experiences you won’t find anywhere else.  Beyond its teaching mission, the University of Minnesota is a first rank research institution, committed to the creation of new knowledge and ideas.  Faculty members at the U of M are world-renowned experts in practically every conceivable field of knowledge and human endeavor.  In UHP we seek to engage highly motivated and well-prepared students to join our faculty in the exciting process of discovering new knowledge and creating new ideas.

I, along with the rest of the UHP staff, am eager to help engage you in all that the University has to offer.  We look forward to being here for you!

“In my experience, the professors in Honors classes really challenge the students, but in a way that has been helpful and not at all detrimental to my academic standing. Honors professors have challenged me to write at a more sophisticated level, which is extremely important to me as an English major. The best thing about taking an honors course is that at the end, I have always felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.”
