Honors Experiences

Honors Seminars, Honors Departmental Courses and Freshmen Seminars offer UHP students exciting classroom experiences--adding depth and breadth to their study. Critical thinking and discovery are integral outcomes to learning in Honors coursework. Together this cross section of limited size seminars, introductory Honors courses, Honors laboratory options, rigorous, Ivy League-style Honors lecture courses, Honors Directed Studies, and access to graduate level courses make for a vibrant classroom experience.

Additional Honors Experiences

On occasion students may petition for their participation in distinctive educational experiences to be counted as honors opportunities. These experiences can include:

  • Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) projects and other faculty-directed research

  • Significant Study Abroad Experiences

  • National Student Exchange experience

  • Completion of an experiential learning contract in connection with an internship which is integral to the student's undergraduate education

  • Significant internship experiences

  • Significant community engagement projects

  • Publication in a recognized scholarly or professional journal

  • Poster presentation at a regional or national conference

  • Significant undergraduate tutoring and teaching experiences

  • Honors Contracts (in exceptional circumstances and at the suggestion of their UHP advisor only).

Honors Thesis

An Honors thesis is required for graduation with Latin Honors at all levels.The Honors Thesis is the culmination of the student's work in research, creative expression, or practicum experience. It must be supervised and approved by faculty.
