Maintaining Good Standing in UHP

UHP students are actively engaged inside and outside of the classroom throughout their four-year academic career. UHP students are expected to complete four Honors Experiences in each of the freshman and sophomore years, including May term and summer, and three experience in each year of the junior and senior year.

Upon completion of these requirements, a yearly "Honors Certification" notation will appear on the student's transcript.

Careful attention has been paid to the manner in which these requirements can be met to maximize accessibility, relevance and integration into the student's major requirements. Thus the particular mix of Honors Experiences in a given year will vary as a student progresses in the program.

Freshmen and sophomore students entering fall 2008 will be required to complete a minimum of six credits in Honors coursework (including Freshman Seminars, departmental Honors courses, and/or Honors Seminars) to count as two of the four experiences. Students are expected to get involved early with research and community engagement, which also fulfill Honors requirements.

Juniors and seniors completing UHP requirements will also be fulfilling the University-wide requirements for graduation with Latin Honors, including, regardless of major, completion of an Honors Thesis, Honors Project, or Honors Capstone. Students will work closely with their UHP and faculty advisors to plan for the right combination of research, coursework and community engagement to this end .

Assessment of Progress in Honors

To remain in UHP, Honors students will complete four Honors experiences each year. Students are expected to maintain satisfactory academic standards and progress toward graduation. Students who do not meet this expectation will be placed on "Honors Probation" for the following term while they continue to participate fully in UHP. Students who fail to meet Honors academic standards for a second term will leave the program. All Honors students need a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 to pursue Latin Honors.

UHP advisors will review each student's record at the end of each academic year to assess progress in program and degree requirements. Students will be contacted over the summer regarding their continued success and involvement in Honors.
