UHP Requirements

To remain in UHP, Honors students must maintain satisfactory academic standards (including a grade point average of 3.5) and complete a set number of Honors Experiences each year. (May and summer sessions included)

Upon completion of these requirements, a yearly "Honors Certification" notation will appear on the student's transcript.

Freshman and Sophomore students must complete four Honors Experiences each year. Two of these Honors Experiences must be honors courses, totaling a minimum of six credits.  While the two other experiences may also be courses, students are encouraged to explore other, non-classroom-based options. These options are listed on the Honors Experiences page.

Junior and Senior students must complete three Honors Experiences each year.  These experiences may be any combination of courses and non-classroom-based options. Students work closely with their UHP and faculty advisors to plan for the right combination of research, coursework and community engagement. One of these Honors Experiences will be the completion of an honors thesis project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t complete the honors requirements?
UHP advisors review each student's record at the end of the academic year to assess their progress in the program. Students will be contacted over the summer regarding their continued success and involvement in UHP. Students who do not meet these expectations will work with their UHP advisor to determine the likelihood of future eligibility. If the student doesn't appear likely to remain eligible they will be reassigned to a college advising unit.
