Graduation with Latin Honors

University Honors Program students have the opportunity to graduate with Latin honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude), a nationally-recognized symbol of academic achievement.

Eligibility for Latin Honors

In order to be eligible for graduation with Latin honors students must have:

  1. Completed at least 60 credits at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities campus,
  2. Maintained successful, continuous participation in UHP,
  3. Fulfilled a minimum of the junior and senior-year Honors Experience requirements, and
  4. Obtained a grade point average of at least 3.5 in their last 60 graded credits (not including transfer credit).

Level of Honors

The level of Latin honors students receive is contingent upon the level of honors thesis they complete and the grade point average of their last 60 graded U of M-Twin Cities credits:

G.P.A. Latin Honors

3.5 or higher
3.666 or higher
3.750 or higher

cum laude
magna cum laude
summa cum laude

Honors Recognition Ceremony

Each year, the University Honors Program will hold a ceremony to recognize the achievments of students graduating with Latin Honors. The details of the 2013 ceremony are as follows:

  • May 9th, 2013
  • 7:00 pm
  • Ted Mann Concert Hall
